First
flight for Norwegian to Stockholm and
spotting at
Stockholm-Arlanda Airport
September 1st 2003
Photos and report by Kurt Gorm Larsen

LN-KKM
at gate 39 - Oslo Airport ready for boarding for Norwegian's
maiden flight to Stockholm-Arlanda Airport

After having arrived Arlanda, I felt for this motif - it
shows the tower in between the road ramps leading up
to the departure level at Terminal 3. The lower part
of the tower is decorated with quotations from the
Swedish translation of Southern Mail (original title
Courrier
Sud) written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (pilot
and poet - 1900-1944)

Here you have terminal 2 at Arlanda

about to land on RWY 01L

Another Saab 340A, this time in Skyways colours

Beech 300 Super King Air owned by Waltair

Scandinavian Airlines with their Airbus A321-232 arrives
from Copenhagen

On the return to the terminals just passed the cargo area,
these three parked ex. Transjet 747s caught my attention.
They were park at ramp M (de-iceing ramp), but a few
days later they were moved to ramp K.

All four large courier
companies are represented at ARN, here with FedEx A300, yellow DHL B752, old
design UPS B752 and TNT with their only B733F OO-TNA

On the back to the terminals and a well deserved lunch, I
got this in the camera sight - the tower in full length

Here is the new spotter shed at the northern end of RWY 01R/19L

And
this is how RWY 01R/19L looks like from the shed - to the
left you have TWY W. A disappointment was that there was
abosolutely no traffic on this RWY for the two hours I stayed
in the neighbourhood, eventhough the wind direction was perfect
for its use.

And
here we have the three ex. Transjet Boeing 747s from the
shed. There were also two West Air Sweden Cargo HS-748 parked
at the same ramp.

West
Air Sweden Cargo HS-748 SE-LIE out on assignment - taxiing
down W to get to XA and RWY 08

SE-LIE is climbing out from RWY 08

If you move a couple of hundred metres to the northeast from
the spotter shed, you can get great shots with a 400mm
lens of both ramp K and take offs from RWY 08. Here we
have two Caravelles parked at ramp K, one in the old SAS
colours and one belonging to the Caravelle Club.

Skyways

And this MyTravel A321 was bound for Oslo

SAS Dash 8-Q400 cleaned up and on climb out

SAS A321 just started climb out

Britannia Boeing 737-804 SE-DZK heading for Larnaca

Also the Czech Airlines celebration of hundred years of flight
was on a short visit

Now it was about time to board the Norwegian LN-KKH for flight
back to Oslo. With some magic
in PC you can get this type of photo - a mirror
mirror.
How was Norwegian on the flight to and from
Arlanda?
Norwegian
is a low cost carrier (LCC) and you can't but notice
this. Because the flight to Arlanda was a first
for Norwegian, we got a special treatment - a cup of
coffee, a small dark chocolate, and the woman in
seat 10D won return-tickets for two on domestic services
in Norway. The rest of us got small city guide for Stockholm
:-)
As for most LCCs, Boeing 737-300s are used, the seats
are bit worn out, you get to the destination on time,
and you don't need to pay so much for the tickets -
NOK621 (€76) for the trip. To conclude - cost performance
is OK.
