A two day meeting in Trondheim was over, and my flight from TRD to OSL was a late afternoon flight with departure 1720. Having check out of the Rica Nidelven Hotel in Trondheim after ten in the morning, I walked the couple of hundreds meters over to Trondheim Central Station to catch the airport express bus. This service runs every half hour on Saturdays and it takes around 35 minutes to get to the airport - 32 km/20 miles east of Trondheim City centre.

At 11.15 I was check in on the flight - now it was time for me to start plane spotting. Trondheim Airport, Værnes is a small hub that links the STOLports in Nord-Trøndelag and southern part of Nordland to the rest of the Norwegian domestic network. Trondheim is also the start/ end point of the two coastal routes along southern Norway - SAS Commuter Fokker 50s to Molde (MOL), Bergen (BGO) and Haugesund (HAU) and SAS Braathens B737s to Ålesund (AES), Bergen (BGO) and Stavanger (SVG). Below to the left you see the direct destinations from Trondheim.

Five airlines are serving the domestic market from TRD and they are:
SAS Braathens, Norwegian, Widerøe (to the STOLports and TRF), Coast Air and Kato Air.
Three airlines are serving the international market from TRD and they are:
- Norwegian to STN, MJV and PRG
- KLM to AMS
- Widerøe to CPH

In addition to the flights mentioned above, a number of charter airlines are serving tourist destinations on the Canary Islands and around the Mediterranean Ocean.

The newest of the three towers at Trondheim Airport, Værnes
is still not taken into use.

Starting out to the east of the new Terminal A I found this parked Braathens Boeing 737-505 LN-BRD in front to the Braathens hangar. Saturdays a number of the usual weekday flights is discontinued, and I suspect this is the reason for it being parked here.

I now walked passed the Terminal A in western direction, crossed the railway line, along the foot path passing the employees parking area on the left hand side and continued almost down to the E6 (Norway's longest highway 2,570 km/1,600 miles - starting at the Swedish boarder at Svinesund and ending up way north at Kirkenes and the Barents Sea almost to the Russian boarder). A small gravel road along the E6 lead in to a crash gate and an open area a couple of meters below the taxiway level (marked with green).

This is my spotting spot for the next hours at TRD. It is raining more and less the whole time and we have a very low cloud base with difficult light conditions to get those great shots. Close ut to the fence some timer logs are stacked up, and I climb up on these to get almost on level with the taxiway just in front of me. My radio scanner tells me that a number of aircraft are arriving shortly, so let us get starting.
